Face of the Day: Kim Fletcher

Kim Fletcher is one of the good ones, we tell ya’!  It is enthusiastic taste-makers like Kim that keep our beloved town poignant, stylish and utterly delightful.  As youth services coordinator for the Lawrence Public Library Kim has a penchant for tales of heroism, magic and intrigue, and came to Wink in search of the perfect eyewear to embody those qualities.  Her ophthalmologist father imbued Kim with fine taste for unique eyewear and thus she was enthralled when happening upon Etnia Barcelona’s summer collection of flat metals.

This Etnia Barcelona Agra frame in matte white has an ethereal appearance, and seems to simply float atop Kim’s youthful smile.  We think her new look has the coy wit of the Cheshire cat and the glowing prestige of Wonder Woman’s belt.  Equipped with her new look Kim is delighted to continue her idyllic post as lead youth librarian.

This month is Read Across Lawrence and Kim’s team is introducing The Kronos Chronicles to the children of Douglas County with the debut novel The Cabinet of Wonders by Maria Rutkoski.

Faces of the Day: Melinda & Jude Black

Melinda Black and her son Jude warmed our hearts today when they picked up their new glasses together and confessed their mutual love of cool eyewear.   Melinda wanted a look that was youthful and fashion-forward but also very modern to fit into her life in the software development industry.  She chose this Alfie by our friends at Mykita because it’s fantastically amazing of course and it fit all of those criteria quite nicely.  Melinda also took advantage of the sleek and feminine aviator shape as this Alfie will look amazing as the Transitions™ lenses darken to sunglasses outdoors.

Jude had only two requirements for us; 1. That his new glasses be very cool and 2. They had to be green.  (This little man knows what he wants.)  Well Jude, we got your number with this Masonette by those crazy gal-pal designers at l.a.Eyeworks.  Its a mid-century inspired look done up in all new age colorways.  We are green with envy!

Face of The Day: Shadoe Barton

Shadoe Barton has the perfect downtown job as an aesthetician at Salon DiMarco, the perfect downtown living space and now, this glamorous gal has the perfect downtown sunwear!

This l.a.Eyeworks Fortuna in sunflower gold and tortoise is strikingly original just like our gal pal Shadoe.  She makes it look amazing and we like it!

Face of the Day: Debbie Updegraff

Aren’t we lucky that this super fun lady is the person responsible for the juvenile books collections for the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.  Debbie’s days are filled with dinosaurs, jokes, pets, wizards and such, and her nights and weekends are jammed with adult interests like live music and photography.  We felt this adorable Anne et Valentin “Amy” easily fit into both worlds.  Classic and timeless tortoise sculpted to a shape of whimsy with a splash of green at the temples seems to say “hey, I’m fun AND fashionable and I can recount every member of House Gryffindor or sing along to Wilco!”  We like it!

Face of the Day: Diana Toro

Diana Toro

Diana Toro is a fourth year KU school of pharmacy student (so she’s crazy smart,) but of course a girl has to have a little fun from time to time.  That’s why Diana chose this amazing Brasilia from etnia Barcelona in a variegated black pearl plastic with highlights of white checks.  A striking and lively combo that lives up to this gorgeous gal!  We like it!

Face of the Day: Colin Delaney

This cutey is practically family to us at Wink.  His sweetie is none other than fellow blogger (at greensandjeans.wordpress.com) and daughter to our very own Deb, Madeline Rake.   Colin Delaney lives in Philly and works as an engineer for Dupont.  He’s an avid runner, a hiker and a cyclist too, so we wanted to introduce him to the Jack-of-all-frames designer; Mykita.  This Ernest in brown and brushed silver reads highly sophisticated, scarey-smart intellectual by day and because it’s feather weight and built out of the same material that band springs are made of it plays light, agile, fast and durable on the weekends.  And Ernest is handsome enough to live up to this face!  We like it!

Face of the Day: Marty Olson

When Marty Olson isn’t beautifying Lawrence one head at a time at his Salon, Do’s Delux, he can be seen around and about sporting  his “Modulo” in flat black from Anne et Valentin.  Modulo is one of those frames that combines two opposites in aesthetics; a perfect architectural geometry expressed in rigid line and precise circle, and a whimsical lighthearted air.  Such a perfect fit for an artist/musician/hairstylist.  So, when our dear friend Marty stopped by to say hello, we demanded he model this most perfectly round and perfectly suited eyewear!  We are in love with Marty (and his “Modulo!”)

A visit to the optometrist is never a bad thing for Miss Anna Peard–she views it as an opportunity to update her look!  So with the new school year in full swing Anna was delighted to visit us here at Wink and peruse our wide array of youthful eyewear.  She chose a beautiful green tortoise frame to accent her dark hair and deep brown eyes.  But what to do with her old frames?!  Easy–make them into sunglasses.  Her J.F. Rey eyewear had weathered the storm of third grade and was still looking great, so we opted to make her new polarized lenses so she could hit recess in style (picture to follow).  Now Anna is fully outfitted for her scholastic endeavors, and just in time for her big geography test today.  Good luck on your quiz, Anna!
